Good book...

First of all, thank you so much for Murray's birthday wishes! They meant a lot to me as well as to him!

Secondly, I am on the hunt for a GREAT book to read. I am burnt out on reading magazines and parenting "how to" books. I am looking for a GREAT novel that's easy to pick-up AND put-down (I've got two little ones that demand a lot of attention). Great story, good characters, clean, etc. My favorite author is Francine Rivers but I've read all her books (I think).

We are taking Faith to the library tomorrow so I know this is late notice but if you have any suggestions please leave them fast!!

Thanks!

Wait, wait -- they MAKE books that aren't related to parenting!?!? Nobody told me! :)

I feel your pain! But, I have to confess that is has probably been over a decade since I read a book (non-work or parenting related) that wasn't a political thriller or espionage novel. So, on the off chance that international intrigue, political bribes and assassins interest you, my two favorite authors are Jeffrey Archer and David Baldacci. Not sure how clean they are, though. Those aren't exactly moral professions, you know?
I'll be sure to check back and see what everyone else recommends -- my literary horizons could use some broadening. :)

Jaime!

Hi! This is Jill Young from FFX CoC. How are you?!

Thank you again for loaning me those books by Francine Rivers. I, too, loved her!

I am currently reading the books by Karen Kingsbury and I think you'll love them! It starts with "Redemption" and there are five books in the series. Plus, nine more after that. And they all take place in Indiana. :)

I plan to blog about these books soon! Take care! I'm glad you are all well.

Jill

I read the Harry Potter series this summer and can't say enough about how great they are! Such fun characters and quite exciting. They're an easy read, but can be difficult to put down once you get toward the end of each book.

I like Francine Rivers too! I read her all summer before last.

Hi Jaime -
Have you read the Mitford series of books by Jan Karon? The first one is: At Home in Mitford. I have really enjoyed them over the years.
Blessings. Nancilynn

You guys aren't going to believe this. I went to the library still not sure what to get...

I quickly checked the blog to see if there were any last minute suggestions (I have already read some of K. Kingsbury and don't like the political types...sorry Kat). I got Amy's entry and decided to try the HP series (I've seen the first movie but that's it and have heard that the books are INCREDIBLE). I still REALLY wanted a Christian book though. I went up to the Adult Fiction section and the librarian gave me a bookmark with random Christian authors on it. She named a few and sorta got excited over one named Jan Karon and talked about the Mitford series. So I decided to give it a whirl! I came home with...

At Home in Mitford and
Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone.

Can't wait to read a novel again!

P.S. Murray was excited about the Mitford series as he's heard it's really good too!

How cool to just now read that Nancilynn suggested the Mitford Series....I didn't know that one until after I got home with the book.

Hi Jamie -
This is Vikki Forgione from Brookfield. I have just the book(s) for you.
It's a series called the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency written by Alexander McCall Smith. The series also begins with a book by the same name. They are easy to read, the characters are charming and memorable, and the prose is just what the doctor ordered. Try the first one and let me know if you have fallen in love with it. Should you care to try something else from AMS, try 44 Scotland Street - it's a series of vignettes about a group of people who live at an apartment building at that address.
good luck, and keep blogging, it's fun to see your lovely family grow.

Thanks, Vikki! I will check out those books soon. Great to hear from you. Tell everyone at Brookfield hello for me. I haven't heard of the series you have recommended. I LOVE learning about new books/authors. I'll let you know when I check it out!

Jaime, I too LOVE the Mitford books! They are so, so very wonderful! Enjoy! Last year I also read A Trip to the Beach by Robert and Melinda Blanchard. I got it from my library. It's the story of how this couple decides to move to Anguilla in the Caribbean and open a restaurant. I really enjoyed it. It's not Christian but very clean. Kelly

Try "Escape from Polygamy: the Carolyn Jessup story." I enjoyed it. It made me think. And the saddest part of the book is the line where she said........
